Reverse Engineering Success in a 12 week program

Success from an ISO Perspective

Projects can be hard and daunting to get off the ground, especially in an organization, and implementing a management system is no different. You can make it easier by breaking it down into bite-sized chunks and in this video, I explain how you can find success in implementing a management system using this method.

l was recently invited to speak at the ARI mentor program, in which participants were tasked with a project in a 12 week time period. It's no secret that setting short term goals is an effective way to maintain focus, keep momentum, and what many people fail to realize is that it's written in the ISO management systems.

What does it look like in ISO?

What I've been campaigning for the last couple of years is how to read the ISO standards, and the ISO has done a disservice in the way it's structured the standards. I'm not talking about the structure of Annex SL, I'm talking about the actual structure of the document.

What is the first thing you do when you pick up an ISO standard? You begin reading from the front to back, correct?

This is the issue, why? Because people assume that the clause numbers are the sequence of events in order to implement the standard, and the truth is it's not.

Where to start.

You start at  Management Review,  clause 9.3, and it's ISO's way of saying break-down the implementation of the system. It's about strategic sessions, with the implementation of a continual cycle. Keyword: continual, and not continual in terms of a lifetime of the organization, but continual in terms of a 12 month period. Begin your implementation by planning and scheduling your management review meetings at a minimum of 1 each quarter. For some organizations, it might be more, but it should never be less.

Reverse Engineering.

What are your goals, are they S.M.A.R.T, can you break them down into steps, can you identify the order of steps, and what is the first step?

The answer to those questions is where you start, for any project, in any organization, in any situation. If you're confused about the order of which you need to be implementing your ISO management systems, I'll take you step-by-step through the implementation process in the upcoming e-book + video course: How to Implement an ISO Management System. I'll give you the correct sequence of events you should be implementing the standard by so if you're unsure about the steps involved then this course is for you.
